The Lord does not grow weary

This is written by Libby Granite. She is a teacher at St Mary's school and likes to colour code her to-do lists.

Isaiah 40:28-31

28 Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
    and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
    and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint.

Reflection

When asked the question, "How are you?", how many of us automatically reply, "Oh you know, busy…"? Increasingly, it seems that in modern society, the badge of 'busy' has become a status to aspire to: a measure of our importance and necessity. 'Busy' implies that we are coping with all the challenges of life and that we are efficient robot-humans, powering through to do lists with ease and flair. It can seem that to admit that we are overwhelmed or tired is a sign of weakness or of our lack of worth.

This passage reminds me of two really important things that I frequently forget:
1. It’s OK to be tired and to stop
2. Ask God for help

So many times, when I feel like I'm drowning in a sea of post-it notes and contemplating whether hiding under my desk is an appropriate course of action, I hear a voice telling me that help is at hand. And sure enough, when I stop and give myself proper time to reflect and pray, it's like the fog has lifted and I'm once more winning at this business of life.

The danger of being 'busy' is that we don't give ourselves the time to connect with God and to pray. God loves us, whether we have ticked off one or twelve of the things on our list. Top of every to do list should be PRAY – ask God for help. Spending time with God renews us and gives us strength. You are never too busy to pray.

Take some time now to not be busy, to spend time with God and to let Him renew you. Acknowledge your weaknesses and hand them to Him, so that today you can soar on wings like eagles.
