Ever since that frightening day when literate-impaired all-girl rappers Salt ‘N’ Pepa joined forces with the big-haired bilingual crooners of girlgroup En Vogue and released the irritatingly catchy ‘Whatta Man’ confusion has plagued the male species in its quest for identity. Is it really important to be ‘smooth like Barry (White RIP)’, with ‘a voice which got bass’ and to have a ‘body like Arnold (Schwarzenegger, not Palmer, I’m guessing) with a Denzel (Washington) face’?
And if it is what if we don’t want it to be?

Well, arising as it is like a phoenix from the flames, Hombre is back to bring all the clarity of a Barry Kissell notice to the confusion that surrounds the question of what it is to be a man in the 21st century.
Hombre is about guys spending time with each other, having a laugh, building friendships and working out how to live a life of meaning and purpose in service of God’s kingdom. It’s about discovering who God created us to be; not conforming to a type, but growing into the individual characters, personalities and gifts God has given us.
Over the year there will be one-off social events, a weekend away and various other manly shenanigans. Watch this space for more info. |
